Stretch marks occur when the skin stretches rapidly, injuring the underlying tissue. Over-the-counter treatments and prescription treatments can help fade and reduce stretch marks. Another option is laser resurfacing or microdermabrasion performed in a dermatology office or skin care clinic. All these options can be costly and require repeated treatments to be effective. Making your own stretch mark removal cream can be less expensive.
Step 1
Place 1/2 cup cocoa butter into a saucepan. Cocoa butter may help reduce stretch marks and keep skin soft and supple. A 2008 study by the Department of Health Behaviour and Education, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon, provided results of cocoa butter to prevent stretch marks in 210 pregnant women. The study concluded that there was no evidence to back up the claims that it actually helps, however other clinical studies have deemed this finding inconclusive pending further research geared towards treatment of already existent stretch marks.
Step 2
Add 1 tbsp. wheat germ oil to the saucepan. Wheat germ oil helps moisturize the skin.
Step 3
Stir in 1 tbsp. apricot kernel oil. This will add vitamin C to the skin, which may help rebuild collagen fibers that were broken down in the skin due to rapid expansion of the skin.
Step 4
Add 1 tsp. vitamin E oil to the mixture. Vitamin E may help protect and heal skin from injury and underlying damage, according the American Academy of Dermatology Association. This nourishes the skin and aids in tissue damage repair and collagen fiber reformation.
Step 5
Stir in 2 tsp. grated beeswax. Beeswax will give your cream consistency and keep the cream from spoiling.
Step 6
Heat ingredients over medium heat stirring continuously. Stirring will keep the mixture from scorching and burning. Do not bring to a boil.
Step 7
Pour mixture into an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. Once the mixture has cooled, apply to stretch marks one to two times daily.
