To properly care for a skin problem, you should first ask your dermatologist for a diagnosis. A consult with a dermatologist is especially important if you think your skin problem may be a serious one. Once you know what the problem is and that it is not a serious condition, set up a skin care regimen that will help to improve your skin problem and prevent it from getting worse. Purchase skin care products designed to treat your specific skin problem and use them faithfully.
Step 1
Care for dry skin by avoiding excess sun exposure and too much steam. Use gentle soaps and cleansers on your skin, and apply a hydrating mask to your face once a week or more, according to the instructions given by the manufacturer of the product you use. Use toner that does not contain alcohol. Get facial massages from an esthetician to encourage activity of the oil glands. Drink more liquids. Exfoliate skin to remove dead skin that may prevent nourishing skin creams from entering your skin's pores. Apply moisturizer to your skin when it feels tight or itchy.
Step 2
Care for oily skin by always keeping it clean. Wash your face in the morning and in the evening, and use a toner on your skin after washing it. Exfoliate your skin once a week and apply a clay mask to your face to draw out dirt and debris. Be gentle with your skin at all times. Have a deep pore-cleansing treatment from a licensed esthetician twice a month. Use skin care products on your face that will balance oil production.
Step 3
Care for mature skin by treating it gently and by applying nourishing skin products to it. Wash mature skin with a gentle cleanser, and use an alcohol-free astringent on your skin. Use a gentle exfoliant to remove old skin, and apply a moisturizer to your skin while it is still slightly moist. Apply a serum or gel to your skin before going to bed at night to nourish and hydrate your skin.
Step 4
Care for rosacea with the help of a dermatologist. If left untreated, rosacea can develop into a severe skin problem with resulting redness of the skin on the face, inflamed lumps and broken blood vessels. Do not eat foods such as tomatoes, chocolate, spices, hot beverages, citrus fruits, vinegar and alcohol, as these foods have been know to aggravate rosacea. Use sensitive-skin care products on your skin and avoid all skin care products that contain alcohol. Apply medicine to your skin that has been prescribed by your dermatologist or use soap made for the treatment of rosacea.
