How to Store Homemade Baby Food

Homemade baby food has become more popular as more families try to live green. However, it must be stored safely so that your child does not contract a food-borne illness. After you have made your baby's homemade food, you should quickly place it in storage containers to avoid cross contamination in the kitchen. Remember to save plenty of room in your freezer for mass production of your baby's food for future use.

Step 1

Sterilize the ice trays or commercial baby food storage trays. Place the trays in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes and allow them to air dry.

Step 2

Distribute the homemade baby food evenly in plastic ice trays or commercial baby food storage trays.

Step 3

Place the trays of food in the center of your freezer. Allow the food to freeze completely.

Step 4

Pop the cubes of homemade baby food out of the ice trays. Place each type of baby food in its own freezer bag.

Step 5

Put one or two cubes in a small plastic container to defrost for serving.

Tips and Warnings

  • Place only one type of food in each tray in order to keep foods organized and prevent cross contamination. Baby food can remain in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Introducing multiple foods at one time can lead to stomach problems for baby. Throw away baby food stored in the refrigerator for more than 48 hours.
