Treatments in beauty can help you feel and look your best, plus they can give you more confidence with your look. Some beauty treatments are done in a spa, while some should only be performed by a licensed dermatologist. Choosing a beauty treatment that is right for you is a matter of assessing your need, the skin problems you may have and the amount of money you are willing to invest in your treatments in beauty. Some may say it is a vain way to spend money, but if it makes you feel good, it will be money well spent.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels should only be performed by a dermatologist in an office or lab. Chemical peels are made from a variety of acids--glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid or lactic acid--which are combined together to create a burning action on the skin, effectively removing the older, dead skin on the surface, notes the American Association of Dermatologists (AAD). Chemical peels are effective for removing sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and for getting a generally more youthful glow. Results are seen in the months following the peel, which can cause burning, irritation and redness.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a beauty treatment that is less invasive than a chemical peel, but it produces results in the same way. Using an abrasive agent, a cosmetologist or dermatologist removes the top layer of dead skin from your body. Good for repairing skin that is damaged from the sun, suggests the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), microdermabrasion is often used in combination with other beauty treatments and can even be performed at home with over-the-counter (OTC) products.

Facials

Ever-evolving facials are often touted as the ultimate treatment in beauty, according to "The New York Times." And while they can help you achieve short-term glowing skin, there are no conclusive studies that have proven that facials are effective in keeping skin looking young and beautiful. Made from a variety of ingredients ranging from the soothing botanical, like aloe and avocado, to the wild and wacky, like oxygen and even animal sperm, your spa can give you a facial that can perk up lackluster skin and help you feel your best.

Laser Treatment

Laser resurfacing is a popular and effective beauty treatment. Best for minor facial flaws like small wrinkles and sun spots, points out the Mayo Clinic, the laser is focused on the problem areas and targets the dead or hyperpigmented skin calls that are causing them. Laser resurfacing, an expensive beauty treatment, is effective for most patients. Skin remains red for a month or two following the treatment; results should appear in the six to 12 months following treatment.

Facial Massage

Facial massage is an excellent beauty treatment for those who want stress relief as well as glowing skin. These are meant to bring better circulation to your skin and, ultimately, improve your skin's appearance. It can help with tired, puffy skin. If you have sensitive skin, you may prefer it over some of the harsher beauty treatments. While there are no studies done on the effectiveness of facial and skin massage as a beauty treatment, you may find it a soothing way to get more youthful, glowing skin.
