The best beauty products for aging skin provide skin with nutrients, better skin tone and an overall improved state of health. The products can be purchased either over-the-counter or by visiting a dermatologist. Most products take an average of six weeks to show results. Remember that cost should not be a deciding factor: the most expensive are not necessarily the best quality, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Products that Contain Proven Active Ingredients

According to the American Academy of Dermatology's website, your beauty product must contain scientifically-proven active ingredients. Only by containing any or all of these ingredients will the product be considered as a valid treatment for aging skin. There are only a handful of ingredients that can make this claim. The claims made about the ingredients can be backed up with scientific facts and studies. Active ingredients will be listed on product labels and are usually the products selling point.

Scientifically-proven active ingredients include the vitamin A compound known as retinol. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, retinol was the first anti-aging ingredient used in wrinkle creams. Other names for retinol include retinoic acid, retinoids and retinyl. More notable active ingredients include kojic acid, copper peptides, salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid.

Sunscreen

Sun exposure is one of the enemies of good skin health accorthding to the Skin Care Physicians website. According to this site, dermatologists believe that sunscreens are the best beauty product for aging skin. Sunscreens can help protect your exposed skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. These harmful rays can lead to developing wrinkles, irregular skin discoloration (sometimes known as age spots and/or brown spots) and compromised skin texture (otherwise known as a leathery texture). For the best results, it is recommended you use sunscreens that contain at least a 30 sun protection factor (SPF). The sunscreen must also provide UVA/UVB protection. You can use sunscreen under your make-up, applied to your bare skin. Or, you can purchase a variety of skin care products that contain sunscreen. Sunscreens are also known as sun filters, depending upon the product manufacturer labeling.

Moisturizing Products

As we age, our skin loses its moisture (hydration) level. This natural aging process can lead to signs of increased skin aging. Low hydration levels can also can lead to a dull, lusterless complexion tone. Using a good moisturizer can help brighten your complexion and make you look younger. Moisturizers are considered an essential ingredient in your anti-aging skin regime. Moisturizers can help to fill in fine lines. It is recommended you apply a moisturizer to your skin prior to going to bed. By doing this, your skin will be given a chance to repair itself while you sleep. Products that provide moisture include moisturizers, serums, day and/or night creams, sunscreens, lipsticks, eye make-up, foundations, powders, lotions and gels.
