How to Cure Underarm Odor

Underarm odor is a problem that's hard to hide. It can interfere with social interaction and possible intimate moments, causing great emotional distress for the sufferer. Causes of the condition can range from poor hygiene to medical conditions, and it may be difficult to know where to begin correcting it. With a few simple changes to your lifestyle, you can be on your way to eliminating this embarrassing odor.

Step 1

Get rid of your deodorant. Opt for an antiperspirant instead to help control sweating. Though it isn't the sweat that causes the odor but rather the bacteria that gets mixed in with it, this can still help to scale back the problem. For a cheaper and more natural approach, use baking soda. Apply it under your arms after you have bathed and dried off thoroughly. The baking soda will help to absorb moisture and odors. You may need to reapply it throughout the day.

Step 2

Wash your clothes after each time you wear them. Odors can get trapped in the fibers. If you notice that the smell has gotten into your clothing, add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle the next time you do laundry to help eliminate the smell.

Step 3

Bathe every day, twice if necessary to keep your body clean. Switch to an antibacterial soap to help eliminate bacteria that can cause odors. Dry yourself with a fresh, clean, dry towel when you get out.

Step 4

Soak in a bath with two cups of tomato juice to help kill off strong, unpleasant odors. Soak for at least 15 minutes before getting out.

Step 5

Stay hydrated throughout the day to keep your system flushed of anything that can create unpleasant odors. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily, and avoid substances that can contribute to dehydration, such as caffeine and alcohol.
