At Home Hair Removal Products for Women

There are a variety of at-home hair removal products for women. Methods vary in cost, convenience, and in the types of results they produce. Some hair removal methods remove hair temporarily, while others remove hair permanently. When choosing a hair removal product, consider where the product will be used. Products designed for use on the legs and underarms may be too harsh and irritating to be used in the bikini area.

Razors

The best razors for women are designed with pivoting heads that accommodate a woman's curves. Many razors have built-in moisturizing strips to provide a smoother shave. Razors with multiple blades provide a close shave. "Allure" magazine recommends a woman's razor with multiple blades and a pivoting head.

Electric Shavers

While electric shavers may not provide a shave that is as close as that provided by a razor, electric shavers are less likely to cause nicks or cuts. This is especially important when shaving sensitive skin like that of the underarms.

Shaving Creams and Gels

Shaving creams and gels designed for women are different from those designed for men. Women's shaving creams and gels are more moisturizing and designed to be gentle to women's sensitive skin. "Allure" magazine recommends a shaving gel especially designed to prevent nicks while shaving.

Tweezers

Tweezers are an effective way to remove a small amount of hair, such as when you shape your eyebrows or need to manage a few stray hairs left behind after other removal methods. Tweezers are available in slant edged or sharp-pointed styles. "Allure" magazine gave a Best of Beauty Award in 2009 to a pair of slant-edged tweezers.

Wax Strips

For home hair removal, wax strips are a good choice. Waxing removes hair at the root, providing results that last longer than with shaving. "Allure" magazine recommends choosing wax strips especially designed for the sensitive face, bikini and underarm areas.

Epilators

Epilators are mechanical devices that you might think of as supercharged tweezers: rotating heads grasp individual hairs and pull them out from the roots. Some epilators can be used dry or wet, allowing you to use them in the shower when warm water may make hair removal less painful.
