Blemishes can appear on people of all ages, but most frequently appear when the skin overproduces oils. This overproduction occurs most commonly during periods when the body is having hormonal surges, such as during pregnancy, menstruation or puberty. Luckily, by following an effective skin care routine, acne blemishes can be made to fade from the skin in as little as 10 days. In order to achieve these results, the skin should be cleansed gently, medicated properly and moisturized regularly.
Step 1
Cleanse the skin gently using a soap designed for sensitive skin types. Wet your face and hands thoroughly, and lather your hands with a soap for sensitive skin. Apply the lather to your face, gently spreading it around. Avoid scrubbing your skin, which can cause irritation. Rinse your skin well with water. Repeat twice a day.
Step 2
Medicate your skin properly using a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream. Squirt a pea-sized amount of 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream onto your fingers, and gently apply it to your face. Spread the cream around until it has completely soaked in. Avoid applying the cream near the delicate eye area. Repeat twice a day after cleansing your skin.
Step 3
Moisturize your skin regularly using an oil-free moisturizing lotion formulated for sensitive skin types. Squeeze a dime-sized amount of the lotion onto your fingers, and gently spread it around your face until it has been absorbed. Repeat twice a day after medicating your skin with benzoyl peroxide cream.
Tips and Warnings
- Helpful Information: Sensitive skin soaps do not contain artificial perfumes or dyes, and are not created using harsh chemical ingredients that could irritate the skin. Since acne-prone skin is already inflamed and irritated, only a gentle, sensitive skin soap should be used in order to clean the skin gently, yet effectively. There are many different strengths of benzoyl peroxide creams, including 2.5 percent, 5 percent, and 10 percent concentrations. Since the higher strengths of benzoyl peroxide creams can cause severe side effects on the skin, such as peeling, redness, and burning, only the lowest strength cream should be used. The 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream will effectively clear acne without damaging the skin. Even the lowest strength benzoyl peroxide creams can cause dryness of the skin when used independently. This can be remedied by applying an oil-free moisturizing lotion following the benzoyl peroxide cream. Selecting an oil-free lotion designed for sensitive skin types will keep the skin soft, without clogging your pores or irritating your skin.
