1. Reduce Your Fatigue and Stress Levels
To date, there is no clinically proven method for preventing morning sickness. However, there are ways to at least minimize the months-long feelings of nausea by treating the known causes. For example, nausea can be intensified by stress, both emotional and physical. If possible, take extra time off from work, sleep in some mornings, have your spouse take over more of the household responsibilities or have friends watch your other children for a few hours each week. Morning sickness can be a little easier to bear when you get enough sleep and relaxation.
2. Avoid Foods and Smells That Make you Queasy
For most morning sick women, certain odors and tastes produce more nauseating sensations than others. The most common triggers seems to be coffee, perfumes and colognes, natural body odor, meat, foods cooked in lots of grease and the smells of garbage. In addition, while some women get sick around any food or smell, some can be perfectly fine if they steer clear of a few specific items.
3. Eat Frequently and in Small Quantities
Nausea can be exacerbated by an empty stomach, as the acids are left to digest only the stomach lining. Morning sickness can be prevented to some degree by continually keeping small amounts of food in the belly. This means eating small meals many times a day. When you do eat your larger meals, try to get a good balance of protein and complex carbohydrates, as these are known to ward off pregnancy queasiness.
4. Explore the Effectiveness of B6 Pills or Shots
Some studies suggest that an abundant supply of B6 vitamins in the blood supply can decrease the effects of morning sickness for some women. Your doctor may be able to provide you with B6 shots regularly if desired or she may authorize the use of over the counter pills at home.
5. Take Your Mind off the Sickness
As impossible as this may seem, getting your mind off your stomach and onto something else is one of the best ways to at least forget about the pain, if not get rid of it. This means occupying your time with thought-provoking or entertaining books, staying mentally involved at work, visiting friends and family or employing other morning sickness distractions.
