How to Get Rid of Bags Under Your Eyes Naturally

Bags and puffiness can appear under the eyes as a result of many different factors, including fatigue, illness, heredity and aging. While there are many skin care products on the market that are promoted to reduce and diminish bags under the eyes, they sometimes contain chemical ingredients that can cause irritation in sensitive or delicate skin types. Luckily, bags and puffiness under the eyes can be diminished naturally by following a few effective home remedies.

Step 1

Apply cucumber slices to the eye bags to reduce inflammation in the skin. Refrigerate a whole cucumber for at least 1 hour, then slice off 2 slices that are each about 1/8 of an inch thick. Looking upward with your eyes closed, place the cucumber slices over the eye area. Allow the cucumber slices to remain on your eyes for at least 10 minutes, then remove them to let the area dry naturally. Repeat up to three times per day.

Step 2

Use black tea bags, which act as a decongestant and cause the blood vessels to shrink down. Soak 2 black tea bags in cool water, then squeeze out the excess water with your fingers. Looking upward with your eyes closed, place one tea bag onto each eye. Lay your head back, and allow the tea bags to remain on the eyes for at least 15 minutes. Remove the tea bag and rinse off your eyes. Repeat up to three times per day after applying cucumber slices.

Step 3

Apply ice cubes to the eye bags to reduce swelling. Wrap 2 ice cubes in a thin cloth. Looking upward with your eyes closed, place the ice cubes onto your eyes. Allow the ice cubes to remain on your eyes for up to 5 minutes, then remove them and pat the area dry with a towel. Repeat up to three times per day after applying black tea bags.

Tips and Warnings

  • Helpful Information: Cucumber contains anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce swelling and inflammation when applied to the skin. Black tea contains caffeine, which acts as a decongestant to the eye area, and shrinks the capillaries to reduces redness and swelling in the skin. Ice reduces swelling and inflammation in the skin, but should be wrapped in a thin towel before it is applied to the eye, since many people are sensitive to the low temperature when it is applied directly to the skin. Applying cucumber slices, black tea bags, and ice cubes to the eyes while looking upwards allows the areas of the eyes that are usually the most effected by puffiness to be directly treated.
