How to Stimulate Hair Growth Naturally

Hair can thin as a result of aging, illness or heredity, appearing more fine and limp than you might like. While there are a number of hair care products on the market formulated for stimulating the hair follicles, many of these products contain chemicals that can irritate or inflame the scalp. Luckily, hair growth can be naturally encouraged by following a routine that stimulates the hair follicles, and allows more oxygen to reach the growing hair to help develop new hair cells.

Step 1

Massage your scalp with tea tree oil, which stimulates the hair follicle to help encourage the development of hair cells. Pour 1 tbsp. of olive oil into your palm, and drop 5 drops of pure tea tree oil into it. Mix the two oils well with your finger. Rub your hands together to distribute the oils evenly between your hands. Spread the oil onto your scalp, and use the pads of your fingers to massage the oil in deeply for at least 10 minutes. Use slow, circular finger motions. Repeat two times per day.

Step 2

Vibrate the scalp to increase blood flow to the scalp, which helps carry oxygen to the area to encourage new hair growth. Purchase a vibrating massager from a supermarket or hair supply store. Turn the massager on, then carefully place the massager onto your scalp. Move the massager around the scalp in circular movements for at least 15 minutes. Repeat two times per day.

Step 3

Use a clarifying shampoo to remove dead skin and impurities that could be suffocating the hair follicle. Wet your hair and your scalp well with water, and spread 1 to 2 Tbsp. of clarifying shampoo onto your scalp. Use your fingers to massage the shampoo in, creating a rich lather. After 2 to 3 minutes, rinse out the lather well with warm water. Apply a clarifying shampoo once per day.

Tips and Warnings

  • Helpful Information: When the scalp has sufficient blood flow, more oxygen can get to the hair follicles. This supports the follicles in developing new hair cells, and can encourage new hair growth as well as speed up the rate at which hair grows. Avoid pulling your hair back into ponytails, or wearing hats and caps, which can suffocate the hair follicles and can inhibit new hair growth. Avoid using highly moisturizing shampoos, which can sometimes contain comedogenic oils and waxes that can clog the hair follicles and can prevent dead skin cells from sloughing off fast enough.
