Everyone enjoys a trip to the spa, whether it is part of a vacation or just an outing to the neighborhood salon. Getting pampered from head to toe is the ultimate treat. Though there is some variation to exactly what is included, there are some basic components to a full spa treatment.
Relax
The first step in your full spa treatment is to wind down and get in relaxation mode. You will be given a robe and slippers to change into to get comfortable. Most spas will also offer you water or tea to relax with while you wait for your services to begin. Some spas will also have whirlpools, saunas or steam baths to enjoy before your treatment.
Massage
A massage is part of a full spa treatment. There are many different types of massage that will relax your muscles. A Swedish massage is the most common, using medium pressure and strokes to relax you. In a Hot Stone massage, heated stones warm your muscles. Another popular technique is Deep Tissue massage, where deep pressure is applied to ease muscle pain. The masseuse may use oils or lotions in different fragrances during your massage.
Facial
A facial is a treatment that deep cleans your face and is usually included in a full spa day. First, an aesthetician who is trained in skin care will look carefully at your face and discuss with you anything that is of concern, such as wrinkles, acne or extreme dryness. A facial, which includes cleaning and moisturizing your face, will be chosen to as well as treating any of the specific problems that have been defined.
Manicure/Pedicure
Manicures and sometimes pedicures are often included when you go to a spa for full treatment. Unlike at a nail salon where the concentration is usually just on your nails, the manicure at a spa may also include a hand massage and treatment in addition to soaking, filing and polishing your nails. Similar services are performed on your feet for a complete pedicure, including scrubs to soften any calluses you may have.
Other Services
Services at spas vary from place to place. Depending on the spa and whether it is a day spa or a destination spa you are vacationing at, other services may be included in a full spa treatment. Among them are waxing; haircuts, deep conditioning and styling; body scrubs and exfoliation; mud baths; peels and microdermabrasion; makeup application; or eyelash tinting.
