How to Treat Acne With ProActiv

Acne is a condition characterized by the appearance of pink to red bumps erupting on the skin. These bumps are caused by oil and bacteria becoming trapped inside the pores, which are generally inflamed and irritated. There are many acne treatment products on the market, but it can be difficult to know which ones are the most effective in fighting breakouts. The Proactiv three-step system can be used to cleanse, tone and medicate the skin, eliminating the need to use additional products to clear acne.

Step 1

Cleanse the skin with the Proactiv Renewing Cleanser. Wet your face thoroughly, then squeeze a dime-sized amount of the Renewing Cleanser onto your fingers. Spread the cleanser onto your skin, and gently smooth it around using small, circular motions. After one to two minutes, rinse your face with warm water. Pat dry with a towel. Do twice a day.

Step 2

Tone the skin with the Proactiv Revitalizing Toner. Squirt a good amount of the Revitalizing Toner onto a cotton ball, and spread the toner around the skin, covering the skin well. Allow the toner to dry on the skin completely. Do twice a day after cleansing the skin.

Step 3

Medicate the skin with the Proactiv Repairing Treatment. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of the Repairing Treatment onto your fingers, and gently smooth the lotion around your skin until it has been completely absorbed. Avoid rubbing the lotion in, which can cause irritation. Do twice a day after toning the skin.

Tips and Warnings

  • Helpful Information: Acne can take a while to fully clear, so it is important to follow the Proactiv three-step system for at least three weeks to allow the skin to be free of acne-causing bacteria and for the active acne pustules to diminish completely. For best results, use only the recommended treatment amounts. Applying larger quantities of the products to your skin can result in redness, peeling or burning.
  • If you experience severe side effects when using the Proactiv three-step system, such as burning, itching, peeling or redness, discontinue use and seek the advice of a medical professional. You may have an allergy to the ingredients in Proactiv products. Avoid applying Proactiv products around the delicate eye area, which can become irritated easily.
