How to Make Homemade Dry Hair Treatments

You don't need to spend money on expensive treatments to treat dry hair. In fact, a quick trip to your kitchen might be the only thing you need to get rid of brittle hair and restore softness and shine. When applying hair products, it's important to do so only on the length of the hair but not on the scalp to avoid creating greasiness.

Step 1

Mix an egg with a couple of tablespoons of mayonnaise. Apply all over your hair, massaging well so it penetrates the hair shaft. Secure your hair with a barrette or elastic band and leave the mixture on for about 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water and then shampoo thoroughly.

Step 2

Make an avocado mask. Mash a ripe avocado and spread it over your hair. Let it sit for about 20 minutes before shampooing and conditioning as usual.

Step 3

Pour a quarter cup of peanut, olive or coconut oil into a cup. Microwave for about 20 seconds or until the oil is warm but not boiling hot. Apply the oil to your hair, massaging well and making sure you get the ends fully covered. Wrap your head with a hot wet towel or a shower cap and keep it on for an hour or two. Shampoo and condition after.

Step 4

Fill a spray bottle with beer. After you've washed and towel-dried your hair, spray the beer all over your hair. Let air dry or blow dry. The smell of beer will dissipate after a few minutes and your hair will look shinier and healthier.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp. mayonnaise
  • Elastic bang or barrette
  • Avocado
  • ¼ cup of peanut, olive or coconut oil
  • Shower cap
