Power Bars provide carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals, as well as small amounts of many amino acids. All values below are for one chocolate Power Bar. Values will vary slightly for other flavors. Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) percentages are for adults under age 50. These percentages will differ for older adults, teenagers and children.

Calories

One chocolate Power Bar contains 247 calories. The majority of these calories come from the 47 g of carbohydrates in one bar. Included in these carbohydrates are 20 g of sugar, 10.9 g of which are fructose. The other 9.1 g of sugar are a combination of maltose, glucose and sucrose. One bar also contains 3.9 g of fiber and 12.7 g of starch.

Protein

One bar contains 9.6 g of protein. This is 21 percent of the DRI for women and 17 percent of the DRI for men. The protein in the bar is composed of 19 different amino acids, including some of the essential amino acids such as isoleucine, leucine and valine. According to Eric R. Braverman, M.D., these three amino acids "work to protect muscle during stress or during high-energy states and act as fuel for muscle metabolism."

Fat

One Power Bar contains 2.1 g of fat. The fat total is made up of 0.9 g of saturated fat, while the rest is monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat. Power Bars contain no cholesterol.

Minerals

Power Bars are fortified with many vitamins and minerals, so they contain at least a small amount of nearly every essential mineral. One bar contains nearly 100 percent of the DRI of iron for men and 44 percent for women. One bar also provides over 100 percent of the DRI of copper, 85 percent of zinc, 60 percent of phosphorus, 34 percent of calcium and 12 percent of potassium. For women, one bar provides 53 percent of the DRI of magnesium and 61 percent of manganese. For men, one bar supplies 40 percent of magnesium and 48 percent of manganese.

Vitamins

Power Bars also contain a small amount of most vitamins, especially the water-soluble vitamins. One bar provides 84 percent of the DRI of vitamin C for women and 70 percent for men. One bar also supplies over 100 percent of the DRI of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12, all of which are water-soluble B vitamins. While they contain many water-soluble vitamins, Power Bars do not provide a significant amount of any fat-soluble vitamins, except vitamin E. One bar provides 38 percent of the DRI of vitamin E.
