Acne blemishes are often red, swollen, and when the skin is affected by many acne breakouts, it can cause the skin to look unsightly and unevenly toned. One way to help camouflage acne blemishes is to apply layers of makeup, concealer and powder. By covering up the acne breakouts in correctly, you can effectively hide acne breakouts, and your skin can appear clearer and more radiant as a result.
Step 1
Apply a base of oil-free foundation to the entire face. Pour a dime-sized amount of an oil-free foundation onto a foundation sponge, and allow it to soak in slightly. Dab the foundation over your skin, gently smoothing the foundation around until your face is covered in a light coat. Avoid rubbing the foundation in. Allow the foundation to dry completely.
Step 2
Apply an oil-free spot concealer to the individual acne lesions. Coat a concealer brush in concealer. Using a makeup mirror, carefully dab the concealer onto the individual acne spots. Use the tip of the concealer brush to gently blend the edges of the concealer into the foundation. Allow the concealer to dry completely.
Step 3
Apply oil-free powder to your face. Swirl a large powder brush in an oil-free pressed powder, and gently spread the powder onto your face. Use a light touch, sweeping the brush across the face in long strokes. Avoid pushing the end of the brush directly into the skin, which could rub off the makeup. The powder helps prevent the foundation and concealer from smudging.
Tips and Warnings
- If you have acne-prone skin, use only makeup that is oil-free. Oil-free makeup does not contain additives, oils or waxes that could clog pores. Avoid rubbing the foundation into your skin, which can exacerbate acne and can cause irritation on your skin. Use a light, gentle touch to spread the foundation. Allow the foundation to completely dry before applying concealer. This will allow for maximum acne coverage.
- If the makeup you are using causes skin irritation, redness, peeling, itching or burning, stop using it. Contact a medical professional to discuss whether she feels that you may have a contact allergy to the makeup.
