Anxiety may be due to concerns about job security or a recent job loss. It may also arise due to financial concerns, changes in life situation like a move, a divorce, a death in the family or the death of a spouse. There are many natural ways to work to quell anxiety. Working to quell toxic anxiety adds greatly to the quality of life.

Meditate

Meditation helps with a quest to regain calmness of the spirit. Meditation quells anxiety and helps quiet your mind. Stealing a few minutes out of a busy schedule for meditation time shows you care about your serenity and find ways to ensure that meditation occurs regularly. With regular meditation, it will work to relax the mind and body and rejuvenate the spirit.

Sell Stuff

Financial stress causes a lot of anxiety. So hold a garage sale, or sell stuff at the flea market or consignment thrift shop. Get some extra cash by selling stuff. As the cash inflow builds, anxiety will start to dissipate. Take small steps to ease financial stress and gain peace of mind. Also, removing clutter from the home by selling unwanted stuff helps decrease anxiety too.

Reach Out

Sometimes anxiety becomes overwhelming. If so, many resources are available to help. A therapist can help ease anxiety with talk therapy or perhaps medication too. A doctor can guide a patient to resources to obtain help for anxiety. A relative or friend can provide calm via discussion and advice. Reaching out to other people when feeling stressed helps lessen stress and decreases isolation.

Find Joy

Anxiety is often quelled by finding activities that help a person get into the flow of the activity and turning off all the negativity in his mind. Many activities require concentration and help people to focus on the task at hand and forget about anxiety. Fun ways to lessen stress involve enjoying chess, reading, knitting, wood working, bird watching, kayaking, hiking, painting, pottery, gardening, traveling, writing and many other activities.

Enjoy Nature

Get outside and feel the sunshine and fresh air. Nature is a great stress reliever. Even a short walk will reveal some detail of nature that is intriguing. Sunshine helps lift the spirits and is good for the health. Nature walks (even in a city) lift the spirit and bring a childlike joy to life.

Always Keep Learning

In times when companies are downsizing and job loss is common, it is important to always keep learning and building new skills. Be prepared for a career change if needed. Keep taking courses and attending seminars and learning new information that would be helpful to a career.

Socialize

Isolation deepens anxiety. Start socializing to keep up your spirits and let off some stress. Laughing and talking with friends is a wonderful natural anxiety release. Also, joining friends in activities like walking, biking or sports, helps the mind and body relax and helps remove toxic stress from the body. Interacting with other people is a natural way to ensure that anxiety does not take a hold of the mind via negative thoughts or self absorption.

Help Others

Volunteering helps take the emphasis off an individual and puts it onto larger causes or other people. Volunteering releases anxiety by showing that it is possible to help other people, and doing so feels great too. Volunteer work offers a sense of reward for participating in important work. That adds to optimism and pride and helps alleviate anxiety. Volunteering opportunities are plentiful at hospitals, schools, libraries and with many foundations.
