When a spouse is unfaithful, she often wants to keep it a secret from her partner for as long as possible. The trusting partner is often shocked by learning that his spouse has been having an affair. At some point, though, according to Ruth Houston, author of "Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs," many unfaithful spouses leave clues or signs that they are seeing someone else. If you have any suspicions that your marriage may be suffering from infidelity, there are some warning signs that you should be aware of.
Changes in Appearance
If your spouse suddenly begins losing weight, dying his hair, wearing nicer clothing or spending more time in front of the bathroom mirror than usual, he may be making himself look attractive for someone other than you. Other signs to watch for are a change in your husband's cologne, increased attention to eating healthfully and more time spent working out at the gym.
Unexplained Bills
If you suspect that your spouse is cheating on you, keep a close eye on the credit card and cell phone bills. Unfamiliar phone numbers and unexplained charge card bills may be signs that she is spending her time and money on someone else. The Bay State Detective Agency suggests also watching the mileage on her car, and keeping tabs on how much cash she is taking out of the bank. Higher mileage and greater amounts of cash being withdrawn may be clues that she is having an affair.
Less Time Spent at Home
A cheating spouse may be eager to get out of the house for various reasons. He may offer to run errands for you, or suddenly need to pick something up at the store. He might take the dog for longer walks than usual, or let you sleep in on the weekends while he shuttles the kids to their sports practices. An unfaithful spouse may begin working a lot of unpaid overtime, or going on frequent business trips. Your husband may be using these times to see his mistress or to call her on his cell phone.
Sexual Clues
Your wife may have a change in her typical bedroom habits if she is also sleeping with someone else. She may pick up new techniques, or may be more or less interested in making love. One big clue that she is having an affair is if you develop a sexually transmitted disease. If you have any doubts about your spouse's faithfulness, protect yourself from possible infection, and see a doctor as soon as possible to rule out or confirm an STD.
