Wrapping a hockey stick allows athletes to achieve easier puck handling, and can also be a defensive tool to confuse goalies when shooting a puck. Choose a high quality hockey tape and wrap around the blade of the stick. Finish with a thin coat of hockey wax.
Step 1
Purchase a quality hockey stick. While this piece of equipment may be pricey, a quality hockey stick will last longer and will need fewer repairs than a lower quality stick.
Step 2
Obtain a roll of high quality hockey tape---preferably in black or white. Begin wrapping the tape around the blade of the stick about 1 inch from the heel of the stick blade, starting the tape on the top edge of the blade.
Step 3
Continue wrapping the tape around the blade, overlapping the layers of tape slightly as you reach the end of the hockey blade. When you are about 1 inch from the end of the stick blade, end the tape. Be sure not to apply too much tape to the hockey stick, as this can make the blade stick heavy and the puck hard to control.
Step 4
Rub a small amount of hockey wax into the hockey stick blade. This coats the blade and makes it easier to control the puck.
