To lose weight, you must take in fewer calories than you use in a day. While there is no magic to that formula, there are foods and meals that you can eat that help promote weight loss. There are no negative calorie foods, but some food requires more calories to prepare, chew and digest than they bring to your body, reports Women's Fitness.
Salads
Salads are a huge part of successful dieter's meal plans. Salads are high in fiber and vitamins and have fewer calories per gram of food than most other meals. Most raw vegetables have no more than 30 calories per cup and require more calories to prepare, chew and digest. Salads can be full of raw vegetables of every kind. Fill a large bowl or plate of raw vegetables for a filling weight-loss meal. Many vegetables, such as lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers also are high in water content, which will work to help you lose additional water weight. Lemon and vinegar make good salad dressings, as they will increase the digestive process as well. Get a small amount of vital omega-3 fatty acids with no more than 1 tbsp. of olive oil on the salad.
Popcorn
Air-popped popcorn makes for a tasty, filling snack that also is high in fiber and will assist your digestion. Four cups of air-popped popcorn, with no added butter, salt or oil, contain only 100 calories. Air-popped popcorn can help dieters who long for large quantities of food. Popcorn can also satiate the hand-to-mouth gestures that often are difficult for dieters to discontinue.
Egg Whites
Egg white omelets are a staple for many fitness enthusiasts. They are high in protein and low in cholesterol, report doctors at the Harvard School of Public Health. Protein is an important ingredient for dieters because it helps boost metabolism, burn fat and maintain lean muscles. It takes more energy, or calories, to burn protein than it does to burn fat and carbohydrates. An egg white omelet made with four servings of a prepackaged egg white mixture, or four separated egg whites can provide as much as 50g of protein while adding only 255 calories to your meal. Scramble four servings of egg whites with mushrooms, spinach, onions or tomatoes and prepare in a skillet sprayed with non-stick spray. Splash with hot sauce if the taste is too bland. Additionally, the capsaicin from the hot sauce can improve insulin production and speed up metabolism, helping the body burn fat more quickly after eating.
