Hair removal can be a tiresome and time-consuming task. Fortunately, there are multiple products readily available to suit your needs. Many people use multiple products, as some work better in designated areas than others. For example, tweezing is better suited for small areas like the eyebrows, and waxing can be beneficial over larger surface areas like the legs.
Tweezers
Tweezing is a cheap and ideal option for small areas of hair removal--such as the eyebrows--as you can only pluck one hair at a time. Plucking is commonly used for stray hairs as well. Plucking can be time consuming and a little painful, depending on the area.
Razors
Shaving is a fast, cheap and easy method of removing hair. Hair removal can last up to a few days, requiring you to shave often to avoid stubble growth. Shaving can irritate the skin, causing razor burn, nicks, bumps, cuts or ingrown hairs. Shaving cream can help prevent skin irritation. An electric shaver can also help avoid cuts. Shaving in the direction of hair growth--as opposed to the opposite direction like many people do--can reduce the risk of ingrown hairs as well.
Wax
Wax kits can be bought to avoid going to the salon. Wax is applied to the skin where the hair will be removed. A cloth strip is generally applied to the wax and pulled off quickly. The wax takes hair from the roots and dead skin cells off. Depending on your preference, wax kits can come on prepared strips, microwave wax kits and even wax kits that do not require strips at all for removal. Though waxing can cause discomfort, hair removal generally lasts three to six weeks. Most wax products require the hair to be at least a quarter-inch thick.
Depilatories
Depilatories are another cheap option for hair removal. The depilatory is applied to the skin for a designated period of time and works by dissolving the hair. The hair can then be wiped or washed off. The overall process is generally quick. Depilatories can irritate sensitive skin and often have a chemical smell. The hair removal generally lasts several days to two weeks. Make sure the product is approved for the bikini area if you plan to use it for hair removal in the groin area.
