Changing the diaper of a baby girl will take slightly longer than that of a little boy. Little girls have more folds in their genital area that can breed bacteria and infection if not cleaned well. Clean your baby girl as soon as you discover she has soiled her diaper. Remember to keep a well-stocked supply of diapering materials on hand so you do not have to make a run to the store with a dirty-diapered child in tow.
Step 1
Lay a changing pad out on a level surface that you can easily reach.
Step 2
Remove any clothes covering your little girl's diaper. Deposit any soiled clothes into a plastic storage bag to wash at a later date.
Step 3
Hand your little girl a small baby toy to keep her entertained. Keeping her hands busy will prevent her from reaching for her dirty diaper.
Step 4
Unfasten the tabs of her diaper. Keep the tabs securing the diaper open and away from the mess of the dirty diaper for use later.
Step 5
Wipe your little girl clean in a front-to-back motion to keep bacteria and feces from entering the vagina. Use baby wipes or a soft washcloth. Continue to wipe in this fashion until your little girl's genital area is clean and free from any feces.
Step 6
Remove the dirty diaper, and set it aside.
Step 7
Place a clean diaper under your little girl as quickly as possible.
Step 8
Inspect your baby girl's genital area for signs of skin irritation. Apply rash ointment if you find any irritated skin.
Step 9
Bring the front of the diaper between her legs and up to her waist. Fasten the tabs on the back portion of the diaper to the front half so your little girl's diaper stays in place.
Step 10
Redress your little girl. If your child soiled her clothes, you will need to put clean clothing on her.
Step 11
Dispose of the dirty diaper in a small trash bag or diaper pail.
Step 12
Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid the spread of germs.
