Blemishes are caused by dirt, oils, sebum and bacteria clogging the pores and can occur on any type of skin. Blemishes often cause the skin to become more irritated and sensitive than it normally is. Because of this, the skin requires the use of gentle skin care products that will cleanse, medicate and moisturize the skin without exacerbating the condition or irritating the skin.

Step 1

Wash blemished skin gently, using a sensitive skin soap. Splash the face well with water, and create a lather in your hands with the sensitive skin soap. Apply the lather to your face, gently spreading it around the entire area. Rinse off the lather completely with water. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Medicate blemished skin properly using a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream. Squirt a dime-sized amount of the benzoyl peroxide cream onto your fingers. Gently apply the cream around your skin. Use a light touch, letting the fingers glide over the area until the cream has been absorbed into the skin. Avoid rubbing the skin, which can exacerbate acne. Repeat twice per day after the skin has been cleansed.

Step 3

Moisturize the skin regularly, using an oil-free lotion designed for sensitive skin. Squeeze a dime-sized amount of the lotion onto your fingers. Spread the lotion around your skin. Use the fingers to massage the lotion in gently, but avoid rubbing the skin too aggressively. Continue to massage the lotion in until it has been absorbed. Repeat twice a day following the benzoyl peroxide cream.

Tips and Warnings

  • Helpful Information: Soaps designed for sensitive skin will contain ingredients that are known to be gentle on the skin. They do not contain skin-irritating ingredients, such as artificial dyes, perfumes, and preservatives. Using a sensitive skin soap on blemished skin will allow the skin to become clean without becoming irritated. Benzoyl peroxide clears the skin by delivering large amount of oxygen into the pores, which kill off the bacteria that cause acne. Benzoyl peroxide can be purchased in different strengths, but can cause severe irritation if used in a concentration over 2.5 percent. When the skin is treated with benzoyl peroxide cream it should be properly moisturized to prevent the skin from becoming dried out. An oil-free lotion designed for sensitive skin should be used, which will hydrate the skin without clogging the pores or causing irritation.
