1. Stay After Your First Meeting
At the end of your first meeting the leader will ask all the newcomers to come up front. During this time the leader explains the Core and Flex plan options to new members and answers any questions or concerns you may have. The leader will show you how to use the sliding "Pointsfinder" and how to enter the foods you eat in the QuikTrak System. The instructor will also help you determine your daily points target based on factors such as your age, gender, weight, height and activity level.
2. Do Your Homework
When you get home from your first Weight Watchers meeting, take some time to sit down and experiment with the QuikTracker and the sliding Pointsfinder. Read page eight of the booklet titled "Welcome to Your Meeting" for insights into the general Weight Watchers philosophy. Flip to the back of your Week One book and look up some of your favorite foods. This may help you make a shopping list for your first week. Read over the sections of the Week One book that discuss the differences between the Flex plan and the Core plan. Take a look at sample menus for both plans, and ask yourself which one appeals to you instinctively. Keep in mind many people switch from one plan to the other in the beginning as they fine-tune their approach to weight loss.
3. ETools for an EWorld
If you don't have the time to attend weekly meetings in your area, you can join Weight Watchers online. The eTools program provides new members with informative articles and an insightful overview of both the Core and Flex programs. The eTools program is designed to walk you through setting up a daily points target, determining your goal weight and choosing between the Core and Flex programs. The site also offers daily recipes, an interactive message board, an online points calculator and blogs from lifetime members.
4. Interact With Fellow Losers
People who attend meetings have a higher success rate than those who don't. You'll often find the best insights into how the program works by interacting with members who have successfully lost weight following the Core or Flex plan. Members often enjoy sharing tips and recipes, and their success stories may just fuel your own success. Consider starting a phone or email support list so you have someone to talk to when you need advice. You can also use this list to find workout buddies when you're feeling unmotivated.
