You can easily lose 10 lbs. if you cut back your caloric intake by following a few simple rules. If you are slightly overweight to obese, there is no need to go to the gym and sweat every day. By replacing fatty foods with low-calorie options, and cutting out bad snacking and drinking habits, you will be able to lose 10 lbs. in a few months.

Step 1

Cut out the soda. Replace all sodas and fruit cocktails with water. This is an easy way to cut empty calories out of your diet. A 12 oz. soda contains as much as 120 calories. In 2002, a study by the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" reports drinking a mere 12 oz. of sugary soda a day can pile on 15 lbs. a year. Drink water instead. You can burn an extra 200 calories per day by drinking eight 8-oz. glasses. Drinking water also boosts your metabolism and helps you lose weight faster.

Step 2

Swap full-fat milk for skim milk. An 8 oz. glass of whole milk contains 8g of fat, while an 8 oz. glass of skim milk contains no fat. Milk is high in calcium and can boost your weight loss by increasing fat breakdown in fat cells. You get the same nutritional benefits from both whole and skim milk, so chose skim and reduce the fat grams in your diet. Drinking skim milk will make it easier for you to lose 10 lbs.

Step 3

Cut the condiments. Use about half the butter, salad dressing or mayonnaise you usually do. One tablespoon of butter has 100 calories. Cutting back on the "extras," is an easy way to lose weight. If you are desperate for your condiments, replace creamy salad dressings with oil and vinegar, or reach for the fat-free or low-calorie option.

Step 4

Eliminate the sugar. Stop putting sugar in your coffee and tea. Use a sugar substitute like Splenda or Equal instead. One teaspoon of sugar contains 16 calories. If you drink three cups of coffee a day, you can eliminate 330 calories a week and 1,300 calories a month from your diet. One pound of body fat contains 3,500 calories, so just by eliminating the sugar in your coffee, you can lose 1 lb. in three months.

Step 5

Eat smaller portions. When you go out to a restaurant, have the waiter box half of your food before he brings it out to you. Use smaller plates for your meals, as they trick you into thinking you have a larger portion.

Step 6

Eliminate alcohol. Not only do alcoholic drinks contain "empty" calories, they also tend to increase your appetite and reduce your will-power, leading you to eat more than you planned. A 12 oz. serving of beer contains about 150 calories. By eliminating six beers a week, you can lose 1 lb. in a month.

Step 7

Sleep eight hours a night. If you are sleep deprived, you're more likely to consume sugary foods.

Tips and Warnings

  • While you can easily lose 10 lbs. without exercise, you can lose weight faster if you add exercise to your routine.
