The regulation height of a volleyball net differs depending on the age of the players, the sex of the players and where the game is being played. The height of the net is measured from the middle, and the ends of the net must be the same height and cannot exceed the height in the middle by more than 3/4 of an inch.
Men
The standard net height for men's play is 2.43m, or 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches. This measurement is used until men play in events for age 55 and over. For men aged 55 to 69, the net height is 7 feet, 9 5/8 inch. Men who are 70 and over play with a 7-foot, 6-inch net.
Women
Women play with a 7-foot, 4 1/8-inch net until they begin playing in events for ages 45 and older, at which point a 7-foot, 2 1/8-inch net is used.
Boys
Boys age 12 and under use a 7-foot net, while 13- and 14-year-olds use a 7-foot, 4 1/8-inch net. Boys 15 and older use the regulation men's volleyball net.
Girls
Girls age 10 and under use a 6-foot, 6-inch net, while girls who are 11 and 12 years old use a 7-foot net. Girls 13 and older use the women's net.
Co-eds
Co-ed play uses the men's net height. Reverse co-ed play uses the women's net height.
Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball uses the same net height for men's and women's play. The height of the net is measured from the top of the sand, which is raked level.
Outdoor Volleyball
Outdoor volleyball also uses the same net height for men's and women's play, but the net is measured from the ground, as opposed to the top of the grass.
