1. Adjust your Caloric Intake
When on the Zone Diet you should always maintain the 40:30:30 ration of carbs, protein and fat. That being said, it is possible to maintain your weight by adjusting your caloric intake to match your physical routine. If you find yourself constantly exercising or participating in physical activities, you'll want to increase your intake of calories to help match your physical output. Extremely active people may actually need to eat more than 2000 calories a day to maintain their weight. As long as you stick to the carbs, fat and protein ratio then you should have no trouble remaining at a healthy weight.
2. Change Your Exercise Routine
Changing your exercise routine is beneficial to keep workouts interesting and effective. Also when trying to maintain weight on the Zone Diet, adjust the amount of exercise you do to avoid wide fluctuations. When trying to lose weight you should aim to burn between 1000 and 3000 calories each week through exercise. When trying to maintain your current weight, however, burn less or you'll continue to shed pounds. The main drawback of reducing your exercise regimen or eliminating certain programs will be a marked loss of muscle definition, although this is more a cosmetic issue than a medical one.
3. Don't Change a Thing
This may sound counterintuitive, but the fact is if you've been the same weight for six weeks or more, you probably don't need to change anything. When you're first learning how to maintain weight it's a good idea to track what you're eating, as well as how much exercise you're doing, to find the right balance.
