A fishing bobber is a small float that attaches to your fishing line. It allows you to control the depth of your hook and keeps your hook from getting snagged on the bottom. A fishing bobber can also tell you when a fish is nibbling on the bait. This is most useful for smaller fish that test the bait before they make a full strike. Fishing bobbers are simple to attach and are most common in freshwater fishing.
Step 1
Choose your fishing depth according to the fish you're trying to catch. This is the distance from the fishing bobber to the hook. Surface-feeding fish like perch will prefer a fishing depth of less than 2 feet. Bottom-feeding fish like catfish will prefer bait that's just above the bottom of the lake.
Step 2
Press down on the button on top of the bobber. This will push a hook out of the bottom of the bobber.
Step 3
Place the fishing line in the hook to provide the fishing depth you desire and release the button. This will allow the hook to withdraw back into the bottom of the bobber, while holding the fishing line.
Step 4
Hold the bottom hook with your thumb. This will keep it from protruding out of the bobber. Press down on the bobber's button without touching the top hook. The button will go into the top of the bobber to expose the top hook.
Step 5
Hook the fishing line with the top hook. Release the bobber's button so that it pushes against the top hook to keep the fishing line in place.
