Both professional and recreational swimmers can experience fogged-up goggles while swimming in the pool. The fogging occurs when the body heat from your face creates condensation on the inside of your goggles, causing you to have difficulty seeing in the pool and underwater. Although this problem is rarely dangerous, it can be an annoyance for swimmers. Fortunately, there are some methods available for preventing your swim goggles from fogging up.
Step 1
Try spitting on or licking the inside of your goggles. This will create a type of barrier against the condensation and fogging.
Step 2
Dip your goggles in the water before putting them on. This will make the temperature of the goggles similar to the water's temperature and will help prevent fogging.
Step 3
Rinse your goggles after each time you swim. This will rinse away the chlorine and other pool chemicals, keeping your goggles clean and less likely to fog.
Step 4
Try putting just two drops of water on the inside of your goggle lenses. The water can act as a "wiper" and wipe away the condensation and fog as you move your head while swimming.
Step 5
Spray a store-bought solution onto your goggles if natural methods are not working. These solutions are designed to prevent fogging.
Tips and Warnings
- If you purchase goggles that come with a fog-free coating, be sure to take care of the goggles or the coating will fade quickly.
- Do not wet your goggles if you choose to use a store-bought solution for fogging. The water can mix with the chemicals in the solution and get into your eyes.
