Diamox Sequels is the brand name of extended-release capsules of acetazolamide. It is used in the treatment of glaucoma, a condition in which there is too much fluid buildup and pressure in the eye. Diamox Sequels also may be used to help lower your eye pressure before you have surgery for acute angle-closure glaucoma. Diamox Sequels also may help people suffering from AMS or acute mountain sickness, a condition that happens more severely in some people as they acclimate to high altitudes.
Vision
Diamox Sequels may produce a common side effect, blurry vision, that is not serious, Drugs.com states, and should go away by itself as you continue treatment with the drug. Changes in vision, particularly if you perceive distant objects differently, are signs of serious side effects of the drug, the Mayo Clinic states. You should contact your physician immediately if you experience this problem, or if your blurry vision does not go away on its own.
Urination and Defecation
There are several potential serious side effects of Diamox Sequels categorized as "less common," the Mayo Clinic notes. These may include urine that contains blood, burning or pain when urinating, a urine output that suddenly decreases or urination difficulties. These are not serious side effects and will go away the long you take the medication, the Mayo Clinic states. You also may have diarrhea, which is relatively common and temporary. Constipation may occur at the beginning of treatment, too, but this is less common.
