Boric acid is a non-toxic powder widely used as a natural insecticide. Boric acid is a common ingredient in most commercial insecticides. It is effective in eliminating roaches, silverfish, ants, termites, water bugs, palmetto bugs and numerous other pests. It is also very effective in small amounts and remains potent indefinitely provided it is kept dry. Purchasing commercial insecticides can be expensive and most of the ingredients are harsh chemicals that can cause skin irritation or breathing problems. However, you can get rid of pest problems naturally using boric acid.

Step 1

Empty the area to be treated. Remove tables, chairs, small furniture and other movable furniture where you prepare your food. You don't have to move large furniture like bookshelves.

Step 2

Sprinkle boric acid powder all over the floor. Make sure to cover the entire area with a thin layer of borax powder.

Step 3

Sweep the powder toward every corner of the room using a broom. Use the broom to push the powder into every small opening or crack you see.

Step 4

Use the broom to sweep up any borax in the middle of the room. Avoid using a vacuum since it will collect most of the borax powder. You want some powder to remain in the small openings and cracks.

Step 5

Sprinkle boric acid powder in dark places where insects are most likely to enter such as behind the fridge, under the sink and in closets, the attic and the basement.

Tips and Warnings
