Ripped Fuel is a weight loss supplement manufactured by Twinlab, makers of Metabolife, Endurance Fuel and other sports and nutritional supplements. Ripped Fuel relies on a proprietary list of herbal ingredients as well as significant amounts of caffeine, green tea leaf extract and cocoa. Manufacturers warn that the 220mg of caffeine in each pill can cause serious side effects when taken with other caffeinated products. They warn pregnant women and those under 18 to avoid taking Ripped Fuel because of the risk of side effects.

Central Nervous System Disorders

Previous versions of Ripped Fuel contained ephedra, which the Food and Drug Administration banned for sale in the United States in 2004. Ephedra-free Ripped Fuel products rely primarily on caffeine, which can have effects on the central nervous system and cause serious medical complications. Caffeine raises blood pressure in some people and creates an adrenalin rush that causes a fight-or-flight response. People with high blood pressure could experience dangerous levels after taking Ripped Fuel. People with mental disorders such as panic attacks and bipolar disorder can have adverse side effects from Ripped Fuel because of the caffeine and polyphenols present in high doses. Caffeine consumption can lead to an increased heart rate that can cause a stroke in some consumers. Doctors at the National Institutes of Health report that caffeine also can worsen conditions related to coronary heart disease and peptic ulcers.

Jitters

Trainers at Bodybuilding.com report that the agitated and jittery feeling that many people report after taking Ripped Fuel can easily be burned off in the gym or through exercise. Consumers who are primarily sedentary seem to exhibit the highest rate of nervous anxiety when using the energy diet supplement. Twinlab Ripped Fuel can cause jitters and sleep disturbances, especially when taken shortly before bedtime.

Adverse Drug Reactions

While the benefits of green tea extracts are widely praised, doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center report that when it's taken in combination with other medications, the side effects can be serious. Green tea extract can inhibit heart medication and reduce the effects of antibiotics.People taking blood thinners or aspirin should not use Ripped Fuel, because it contains vitamin K and can negate the usefulness of the medication. While green tea has been shown to increase the effectiveness of some chemotherapy drugs used to treat cancer, it can increase the production of cancer cells in those suffering from prostate cancer.
