Not all fats are created equal. Most people know by now they should limit intake of saturated fats and avoid trans fats entirely. However, even this position is challenged by fats like medium-chain triglycerides, which are saturated fats that can increase energy and help burn body fat. According to "The Abs Diet," all fats are not evil, and some are practically super heroes when it comes to weight loss and fat burning. Add a few of these healthy fats to your diet to burn more fat.
Conjugated Linoleic Acid
Conjugated linoleic acid or CLA is a dietary fat found naturally in dairy products and sunflower oil that has been shown to help burn body fat. In fact, according to fitness author Jeff Anderson, a recent study showed 3.4 g of CLA per day caused a 9 percent decrease in body fat over one year. You can take 3 to 6 g of CLA per day in divided doses with meals.
Sesamin
Sesamin or sesame seed oil is another fat-burning fat that is becoming popular. You can either cook foods in sesame oil or buy it as a supplement. The company Scivation offers a product called Sesamin, which can be taken in doses similar to those for CLA.
Meduim-Chain Triglycerides
MCTs or medium-chain triglycerides are saturated fats that may help you lose body fat. Found naturally in coconuts, MCTs are metabolized in the body for energy. According to best-selling author Jeff Anderson, they also have a thermogenic effect, which can increase lipolysis or fat burning. You can add MCTs to protein shakes or take a tablespoon pre-workout to boost energy levels.
Omega-3
Not only can omega-3 fats from fish or flaxseed oil help burn fat; they can also improve heart, skin and brain health. Considered a polyunsaturated fat, this essential fatty acid improves blood glucose levels and increases oxygen utilization in the body, according to Jeff Anderson. You can take 1 to 6 g per day in the form of flaxseed or fish oil.
Monounsaturated Fats
"The Abs Diet" recommends monounsaturated fat choices as healthy dietary fat-burning fats. Examples of monounsaturated fats are almonds (nuts and seeds), avocados, egg yolks and olive oil. These fats also boost heart health while promoting optimal levels of the fat-burning hormones produced in the body. It's easy to replace saturated fats in your diet with these natural fat burners.
