Pimples are characterized by the appearance of blackheads, papules, pustules and cysts on the skin. When pimples contain dark spots in the center, they are classified as blackheads. The dark coloration is caused by sebum, oils and bacteria becoming trapped in the pores and oxidizing, which turns the blockages dark brown. In order to remove the dark spots on pimples, it is important to flush out the pores, exfoliate the skin and increase skin cell turnover so that the pores can remain clear of any entrapment.
Step 1
Apply an oil facial to flush out the pores. Spread 1 to 2 tsp. of castor oil onto the face, and massage it in for at least three minutes. Fill a bowl with boiling water and lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl. Cover the head with a towel to force the steam to cover the face. After five minutes, lift the head and wipe away the oil with a wet washcloth. Apply an oil facial once per day.
Step 2
Scrub the skin with baking soda to remove dead skin cells. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into your hand, and drizzle 1 tsp. of water onto it. Mix into a paste. Spread the baking soda paste onto wet skin, and massage it in for two minutes. Rinse off the skin with water. Apply a baking soda scrub once per day after flushing out out the pores with castor oil.
Step 3
Apply a lemon juice compress to increase skin cell turnover. Soak a few cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, and place them over the areas affected by blackheads. Allow the pads to remain there for at least five minutes, then remove them and let the skin dry. Apply a lemon juice compress once per day after exfoliation.
Tips and Warnings
- Helpful Information: When applying an oil facial it is important to only use an oil that will not clog the pores. Noncomedogenic oils include castor, olive and jojoba oil. Castor oil is especially purgative, and can be very helpful in purging the pores if impurities. Castor oil binds to the oils and sebum in the pores, allowing them to flush out more easily when the skin is steamed. Baking soda is an alkaline substance that is comprised of smooth particulates that can be used to remove dead skin without scratching the face. Dead skin cells can trap impurities inside the pores, so removing dead skin cells helps prevent the pores from becoming clogged. Lemon juice is high in vitamin C, which increases the speed with which new skin cells are developed and helps the dead skin cells slough off more easily.
