Knot tying is an important skill to acquire when learning about fishing. A good knot will prevent a fish from breaking the hook from the fishing line or allowing it to slip free from the line under pressure. There are a wide variety of knots that can be used to tie a hook to a fishing line, each with their own benefits. Here are three relatively easy techniques for strong and effective knots used for tying hooks onto fishing line.
Scaffold Knot
Step 1
Pass about 6 nches of the end of the line through the eyelet in the hook and bend it back along the main portion of the line.
Step 2
Wrap the end of the line loosely around the bend three times, working your way back toward the hook.
Step 3
Insert the end of the line through the wraps away from the hook. Pull the knot tight and trim the end to about 1/8 inch from the knot.
World's Fair Knot
Step 1
Form a loop about 6 inches long in the end of the fishing line and pass about three inches through the eyelet of the fish hook.
Step 2
Flip the loop back against the double line. Pass the end of the line over the side of the loop, then under the double line.
Step 3
Pass the end through the new loop made in the end of the line. Pull the knot tight and trim the excess line to about 1/8 inch from the knot.
Nonslip Loop Knot
Step 1
Create a loop in the fishing line about four inches from the end of the line. Pass the end of the line through the loop to form an overhand knot
Step 2
Pass the end of the line through the hook's eyelet and thread is through the overhand knot.
Step 3
Wrap the end of the line around the main portion of the line about five times, working your way away from the overhand knot.
Step 4
Pass the end of the fishing line back through the overhand knot. Pull the knot tight and trim the excess end line about 1/8 inch from the knot.
