Graco is a brand of infant car seats favored by parents due to product availability, versatility and affordability. A parent may choose from a Graco Infant SnugRide or SafeSeat for a new baby. The instructions for both models are similar. There are many colors and patterns from which to choose with matching baby gear from Graco that is used with the infant carrier and restraints.

Step 1

Complete the registration materials included with the Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier. The model number and the date of manufacture can be found on a label attached to the car seat. This information is helpful in contacting a consumer if a product recall is necessary after purchase. The Graco infant car seat includes a base, the restraint itself and, depending on the product, a canopy.

Step 2

Squeeze the handle at the back of the infant seat and lift the carrier from the base. Return the seat to the base by pushing the carrier down until it clicks. Ensure that the seat is secure by lifting up on the handle to make sure the restraint is latched firmly in the base.

Step 3

Adjust the handle of the carrier by pushing the buttons on each side of carrier where the handle is attached. There are five handle positions available. It is required that the handle be place in the upright position when carrying an infant in the restraint. Other handle positions are used for convenience or when the carrier is sitting on the floor. The convenience positions should never be used in a vehicle. Make sure the handle is locked firmly into place.

Step 4

Thread one side of the plastic canopy support through the sewn tunnel of the fabric canopy. Assemble the other plastic canopy support by sliding the straight end onto the other support until the pieces lock. Attach the rounded ends of the canopy support in between the infant carrier restraint and the handle base.

Step 5

Place the infant inside the Graco infant restraint so that the straps are just even with the baby's shoulders. Adjust the harness straps by threading the belts through the slots in the back of the car seat, ensuring that the belts are not twisted. Pull the slack on the harness straps to check security. Snap the harness clips together, and place them so they are over the infant's chest area. Click the silver buckles into place between the baby's legs.

Tips and Warnings

  • Check into other Graco baby gear for use with the infant restraint/carrier, such as the SnugGlider Infant Car Seat Swing Frame and SnugRider Stroller.
  • Travel safety is dependent on the infant being properly secured in the restraint/carrier.
