Excess fat around the neck and chin increases the appearance of age in the face. While getting rid of fat isn't easy, it can be done with proper diet and exercise. Facial and neck exercises can help reduce the appearance of fat in this region for most people. In addition to dieting, reducing or eliminating fat around the neck and chin can take years off the face.

Look Up

Stand or sit comfortably. Tilt the head back so your eyes look at the ceiling. Open the mouth wide and then pull the lower jaw upward, as if you're trying to bring your bottom lip over your upper lip. You will feel this exercise all along the underside of the chin and front of the neck. Do this exercise 10 to 20 times and then relax. You can do this exercise several times a day.

Kiss the Ceiling

Stand or sit in a chair and lean your head back. Looking at the ceiling, pretend you're going to kiss someone. Really pucker up and extend the lips, still pressed together, upward as high as you can. Hold that position for one to two seconds and then release. You should feel this exercise in the lower jaw, under the chin and the neck muscles from the front to the sides of your neck. Perform the kissing motion 20 times. Do this exercise three times a day.

Resistance

Perform resistance exercises that work the neck muscles, strengthening and toning muscles that reduce the slackened appearance of neck fat. Place a hand on the forehead and try to press the head forward while at the same time pressing against it with the hand. Hold the tension for a count of five, according to the University of Maryland Environmental Safety Division of Administrative Affairs, and then relax. Repeat the exercise five to 10 times, three times a day. You can also perform adaptations by alternating placing one hand on the right side of the head and resisting pressure as you try to press your head against the hand, again holding for five seconds before releasing. Repeat the exercise on the opposite side of the head with the other hand. Alternate, performing between five and 10 repetitions, which you should do three times a day.

Overall Exercise

Exercise for the entire body is an effective method of reducing fat in the neck. Cardio exercise will burn fat in all areas of the body, according to ShapeFit.com, suggesting between 30 minutes to an hour of cardio or exercise that increases heart rate for the duration of the exercise. Step aerobics, swimming and walking are examples of cardio exercise that help burn excess fat on the body.
