Baseball gloves are exposed to dirt, mud and grass that can cause the leather to become dirty. Leather is like human skin in that it needs to be cleaned and protected from the elements. A baseball glove can last for several seasons if taken care of properly. Cleaning a leather baseball glove is easy if you follow a step-by-step process.
Step 1
Wipe off excess dirt or mud with a dry rag. Remove the dirt from the inside and outside of the glove. Make sure that most of the dirt is removed, as dirt can interfere with the absorption of glove conditioners that soften the leather.
Step 2
Apply Vaseline with the clean rag to the inside and outside of the glove. The Vaseline helps to clean the leather and protect it from harsh weather. It also softens the leather and provides a barrier for water loss.
Step 3
Remove any excess Vaseline and allow the glove to dry for one to two days in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
Tips and Warnings
- Apply Vaseline as necessary to keep the leather conditioned and protected from the elements.
- Do not put the glove in the oven or microwave. Keep the glove away from direct sunlight. Do not use water to clean the glove.
