Many people would love to grow longer hair, but sometimes the hair can become brittle and fragile due to an illness, heredity or an overuse of hair care products and treatments that contain harsh, chemical ingredients. Fortunately, there are ways to naturally increase the rate at which the hair cells grow by stimulating the scalp and keeping the hair free of dead skin cells that could block the flow of blood to the hair follicles.
Step 1
Massage the scalp with tea tree oil, which will increase the circulation of blood to the hair follicles. Combine 1 tbsp. of castor oil and two drops of tea tree oil into your hand. Spread the oils onto your scalp, and massage them in with your fingers for at least three minutes. Let the oils sit on the scalp for an additional three minutes, then wash the hair as usual. Repeat twice per day.
Step 2
Apply vibration to the scalp, which will help oxygen reach the hair follicles to stimulate hair cell growth. Turn on a vibrating massager, and gently place it onto the scalp. Move the massager around the scalp in circular motions for five minutes. Repeat twice per day.
Step 3
Shampoo the hair with a clarifying shampoo, which will remove dead skin cells that could be suffocating the hair follicles. Pour 1 to 2 tbsp. of clarifying shampoo into your hand, and apply it to a thoroughly wet scalp. Massage the shampoo into your scalp, creating a rich lather. After two minutes, rinse off the shampoo with warm water. Repeat twice per day for a week, then reduce the frequency to once per day.
Tips and Warnings
- Massaging and vibrating the scalp increases blood flow, which in turn allows more oxygen to reach the hair follicles. This stimulates the follicles to grow hair more quickly. The new hair growth will be thicker and stronger, and will develop at a faster rate. When using a clarifying shampoo, it is helpful to start out shampooing the hair twice per day for the first few days, then tapering off to once per day after that. This will help remove dead skin cell buildup in the beginning, and will maintain a clear scalp afterward. Keeping the scalp clear and free of dead skin cell buildup prevents the hair follicles from becoming clogged or from becoming suffocated. Once the follicles are free of buildup, the blood can circulate to them more easily and will help the hair grow faster.
