Body hair can grow in dark and thick for some men and light and sparse in others. In either case, hair removal is often a popular solution. In some situations, it is wanted for aesthetic reasons and at other times it is due to a profession such as swimming or bodybuilding. If you are looking for some options, there are several trends worth noting.
Shaving
Shaving is a the old-fashioned method of hair removal that can be done right from the comfort of your home. You need a brand new razor blade, shaving cream and a pair of electric shears to take off the over-burden of hair before you shave. You can also resort to using a tri-blade that flexes to follow the contour of your skin. Everything from your head to your legs can be shaved with this method, and if your skin is sensitive, you can opt for a sensitive skin shaving cream to prevent irritation.
Waxing
Waxing is a procedure where hot wax is applied to the skin where there is hair. A durable cloth strip is then spread out over top of it and then ripped off in a fast motion. The hair clings to the wax and it is ripped out by the roots. This trend can keep you hair-free for a few weeks and if you don't feel comfortable with a home kit, you can visit a spa or salon for a professional treatment. Sugaring is a similar treatment that uses a sugar mixture instead of wax.
Depilatories
Depilatories come in creams, aerosols, gels or powdered formulas. After the skin is washed with warm water, the depilatory gets applied and left on for several minutes. It is at this time that the active chemicals in the depilatory break down the keratin in the hair and cause it to dissolve. The hair then gets wiped off with a plastic tool or wash cloth.
Lasers
Laser hair removal is done in a professional setting by a trained nurse or doctor. A laser beam is shot down on your skin where it zeros in on the melanin which gives hair its color. The hair follicle then gets killed and the hair itself falls out. This trend takes several treatments to see favorable results. According to the Mayo Clinic, you can expect to undergo six to eight treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart to achieve good reduction of hair and slowing of hair regrowth.
Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a procedure that can offer you a permanent solution for hair removal. In this procedure, a trained esthetician or electrologist injects a small needle into each hair follicle. A surge of electricity then gets sent to the tip where it zaps the hair root. As a result, the hair falls out. Over the course of time, the hairs at the root become weakened and they stop growing.
