If you want long, flowing hair, you'll need patience and a good hair care routine. Overuse of chemical hair treatments, illness, heredity or aging can all cause problems with your hair, which lead to breakage or poor overall hair health. Unhealthy hair doesn't make for long, flowing locks. Fortunately, a careful hair care routine can help hair grow faster, stronger and thicker, and can encourage hair to become longer. This routine involves stimulating the hair follicles, redistributing the hair's natural oils to keep the hair properly hydrated and cleansing the scalp with a clarifying shampoo to remove dead skin cells.
Step 1
Pour 1 tbsp. of castor oil into your hand, and mix 2 drops of pure tea tree oil into it. Spread the oils onto the scalp and massage it in with your fingers for three minutes. Then, massage your scalp in the same manner with a prong-style hairbrush for another three minutes. After the allotted time has passed, wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo to remove the oil. Repeat twice a day. This helps stimulate the scalp.
Step 2
Brush you hair with a boar bristle hairbrush to redistribute the scalp oils to the ends of the hair. Start at the roots and work the brush down to the ends of the hair. Use long strokes so that the oils are evenly distributed. Repeat twice a day.
Step 3
Use a clarifying shampoo to keep the scalp clear of follicle-blocking dead skin cells. Wet the hair well with warm water, and spread 2 tbsp. of clarifying shampoo onto the scalp. Massage the scalp with the shampoo, working up a rich lather. After 2 minutes, rinse out the hair well. Shampoo the hair with a clarifying shampoo once per day.
Tips and Warnings
- Stimulating the scalp increases blood circulation around the follicles. This allows more oxygen to reach the follicle to help develop new hair cells. Regularly stimulating the scalp can help the hair grow at a faster rate, and can help the developing hair become thicker and stronger. Regularly brushing the hair with a boar bristle hair brush helps pull the scalp oils down to the ends of the hair shaft, which are typically more dried out and brittle than the rest of the hair. Once the oils are regularly re-distributed to the ends of the hair, breakage can be avoided to allow the hair to grow longer. Using a clarifying shampoo removed dead skin cells on the scalp that can suffocate the hair follicles and prevent hair growth.
