Hockey is a game that requires a full uniform and significant padding underneath the uniform. With the puck traveling at speeds approaching 100 mph and players delivering full body checks into boards with little give, players need every bit of protection they can get. However, despite carrying significant extra weight, players are expected to move at top speeds to make big plays. Putting on the equipment and uniform can take as long as 15 minutes for some players.

Step 1

Put on your undergarments. Start off with your athletic supporter and protective cup. Additionally, put on the hockey garter belt. This will secure your hockey socks.

Step 2

Put on a pair of thin-to-medium thickness white socks. While many people think that multiple pairs of thick socks are needed while skating, this is not true. The thinner the sock, the better feel you will have for your skates and the more control your will have when skating. Snap on a pair of shin guards. Pull your hockey socks on and attach them to the garter so they do not slip down.

Step 3

Put on your padded hockey pants. There is padding in the front thigh area to protect you upper legs.

Step 4

Put on a your shoulder pads. These lightweight pads also offer protection to your chest. Put your uniform shirt over your pads.

Step 5

Lace up your skates so they are a snug, secure fit. Put on your hokey helmet and attach the chin strap. Put on your hockey gloves as well.
