Most people experience acne breakouts at some point in their lives, which can cause the skin to look blotchy, unhealthy and unevenly toned. When the skin is covered with pink or red acne bumps, it can be difficult to feel as though you look your best. For many people, acne can lead to a lowered sense of self-esteem. Luckily, acne breakouts can be concealed effectively by applying foundation makeup, concealer and facial powder to the area.

Step 1

Apply an oil-free foundation makeup to the entire face. Pour about 1 tsp. of oil-free foundation onto a foundation sponge, then gently dab it around the face. Use the sponge to smooth the foundation around the skin, and carefully blend it in around the jawline. Use a light coat, and avoid applying too much foundation to the creases of the face, such as around the nose and mouth. Allow the foundation to dry completely before applying any other makeup.

Step 2

Apply an oil-free concealer to the individual acne blemishes. Cover the tip of a concealer brush with oil-free concealer, and carefully dab it over each individual blemish. Apply the concealer in small, dabbing motions, and avoid swiping the brush over the skin, which will further expose the blemishes. Use the very tip of the brush to blend the edges of the concealer into the foundation. Allow the concealer to completely dry on the skin.

Step 3

Apply an oil-free facial powder to the entire face. Coat a powder brush in oil-free facial powder, then carefully apply the powder to the entire face. Use the powder brush to dust off the excess powder from the face. Be careful not to remove any foundation or concealer from the skin.

Tips and Warnings

  • When applying foundation, use a light touch and avoid rubbing the makeup into the skin, which can cause more acne breakouts. Apply a thin layer of foundation so that there will be little to no demarcation line around the jawline, which will make the foundation too visible. When applying concealer, carefully blend it into the foundation so that there will be no visible difference in the skin tone. Using facial powder helps the foundation and concealer stay on the skin, and prevents it from rubbing or smudging off the skin. Choose makeup products that are oil-free, which will cover acne blemishes without causing more acne breakouts.
