Physical fitness videos (or DVDs) are videos in which an instructor demonstrates or leads a group through a full workout. Videos are made in many different disciplines, including strength training, body sculpting, aerobics, kickboxing, yoga and dance. Working out with a fitness video of your choice provides you with a few benefits over working out in the gym.
Time Is On Your Side
You can work out whenever you want when you use a fitness video. You're not at the mercy of the fitness center's schedule or your own schedule. You're less likely to use the excuse of no time---no time to travel the gym, missed your favorite class because of a late meeting, after-school activities with the kids---you can just pop in a video.
No One Will Know You Have Two Left Feet
Working out with a fitness video usually means you're working out solo. You don't have to worry about how you look trying to keep up with the choreography of the step aerobics or hip-hop dance workout. If you mess up, no one will see you. Working out alone can be a primer to going to a class at some point. You will build confidence in the way you look (if you are self-conscious about your weight) and in your skills.
You Control the Learning Curve
For those strength training or boot camp videos, if you can't lift as much as the exercisers in the video or do as many push ups, there's no pressure to keep up---but it does give you a goal to aim for. You can monitor your improvements by how you feel during the workout or how easy it becomes. It lets you know when it's time to graduate to something more challenging. With the aforementioned dance or step aerobic videos, some of them are choreographed so the exercisers have had time to practice---you can go at your own pace.
