When purchasing a hockey stick, choose a high-quality product made from aluminum, carbon fiber, wood or Kevlar. Aluminum sticks are good for beginning hockey players as they are relatively inexpensive. Carbon fiber hockey sticks are more expensive, and are typically used by more advanced players. It is important to find a high-quality stick regardless of the material---good sticks will last longer and need fewer repairs than lower-quality sticks. No matter what type of hockey stick you have, however, taping the handle will allow for a firmer grip and easier puck-handling.
Step 1
Purchase a roll of white or black hockey tape. Start wrapping the hockey tape around the handle of the hockey stick, approximately an inch from the heel of the handle. Start the tape on the top of edge of the handle in order to prevent the tape from unwrapping.
Step 2
Continue wrapping the tape around the handle. Make sure to overlap the layers of tape as you reach the front of the handle. Once the tape is an inch from the end of the stick handle, end the tape.
Step 3
Finish by rubbing a small amount of hockey wax into the hockey handle. The was will coat the blade and allow for easier puck-handling.
