Swimming goggles help keep water out of your eyes while you're underwater. However, when the water temperature is low, the moisture combined with the heat from your face can result in fogging inside the lenses of the goggles. When this happens, it becomes impossible to see anything through the lenses, and you have to defog the goggles or risk running into people or objects in the pool.
Step 1
Pull the goggles off your head completely and hold them in front of you.
Step 2
Spit into each lens. You have to spit enough to cover the lens. If you don't spit enough, the saliva won't cover the whole inside of the goggles, and the fog will return.
Step 3
Rub it in. Using your fingers, rub the spit into the plastic. Push while rubbing to get good coverage.
Step 4
Rinse your goggles out. Dip the goggles in the pool water. Shake out the goggles to make sure you get all the water out.
Tips and Warnings
- To prevent goggle fogging before working out, apply defogging spray to the lenses prior to your swim. When your goggles fog up, stop swimming. If you're close to a wall, grab on. If you can tread water well and you won't hold up other swimmers, stop right where you are and defog your goggles.
