Acne breakouts are a common inflammatory condition that causes the skin to erupt in puss-filled bumps, which can be painful, unsightly, and can leave skin discolorations behind once if they are popped or picked. Fortunately, acne breakouts can be effectively cleared by following a routine that utilizes benzoyl peroxide cream and jojoba oil to clear the skin. These two products, when used in conjunction with each other, will kill off acne causing bacteria and keep the skin soft and smooth.
Step 1
Cleanse the skin using a gentle soap designed for sensitive skin. Wet the skin thoroughly, and lather the hands with a sensitive skin soap. Spread the lather onto the skin, covering the entire affected area well. Rinse off the lather with warm water. Perform twice a day.
Step 2
Apply a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream to clear acne pustules. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of benzoyl peroxide cream onto the fingers and gently spread the cream around the face. Allow the fingers to glide over the face until the cream has been completely absorbed by the skin. Perform twice a day after cleansing.
Step 3
Apply jojoba oil to keep the skin soft and supple. Place three drops of jojoba oil into your hands, and gently rub the hands together to distribute the oil evenly. Pat the oil around the face, covering the entire area with a thin layer. Allow the oil to soak into the skin. Perform twice per day after applying the benzoyl peroxide cream.
Tips and Warnings
- Helpful Information: Soaps designed for sensitive skin will be free of ingredients that can irritate or inflame the skin, such as sodium lauryl sulfate or mineral oil. Because acne-prone skin is already inflamed and irritated, using a standard soap can exacerbate acne irritation. The skin should be cleansed as gently as possible, and scrubbing should be avoided. There are many different strengths of benzoyl peroxide cream, including 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent concentrations. Since the higher strength benzoyl peroxide creams can cause irritating side effects on the skin, such as peeling or burning, it is important to only use the 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream, which will clear the skin effectively without irritating it. The skin can become overly dry if benzoyl peroxide cream is used without following it with a moisturizer. One effective moisturizer is natural jojoba oil, which is non-comedogenic and will not clog the pores when applied to the skin.
