Dark eye circles can make you look haggard and tired, even when you've had a good night's sleep the night before. Genes are the ultimate determining factor when it comes to dark circles. The Mayo Clinic says broken capillaries, thin skin around the eyes and dilated veins are the main culprits, and not much can be done to rid yourself of them forever. You can, however, cover them up easily with a few makeup tricks from leading experts.
Step 1
Moisturize the area under the eye before you apply any makeup. Keep your moisturizer in the fridge so it acts as a cold cream when you apply it. This can help reduce any puffiness or swelling that can result in dark shadows under the eyes, and it can smooth the surface of the skin to help your makeup look dewy and flawless, notes The Makeup Diva.
Step 2
Slide on a yellow concealing cream. A yellow-tinged cream helps cancel out the blue and purple tones of the dark eye circles because it's the opposite or contrasting color to blues and purples. Smooth it on and blend it well.
Step 3
Top the yellow concealer with one that's closer to your natural skin tone. You can then blend the two concealers for a more natural look. Be careful to dab on the skin-toned concealer so you don't get a cakey result.
Step 4
Smooth your foundation over your whole face to bring the whole look together. Even if you have flawless skin, a tinted moisturizer will help you look awake and fresh and help to conceal the area in which you've applied the concealers to hide your dark eye circles. Take care to also smooth foundation over your eyelid for a flawless appearance.
Step 5
Dust your entire face with a layer of translucent powder to set your look and give you a matte finish. Slip the yellow concealer and translucent powder into your purse or bag for quick touch-ups throughout the day. To touch up, dab some yellow concealer onto your smallest finger and press it onto the eye circles. Then set with powder for a quick fix when you don't have your full makeup bag.
