Almost every bride wants to look her best in her wedding dress. For some brides, losing weight seems to be the only way to do this. However, it is important that you put your health first and the way you look in your gown second to ensure that are healthy for your wedding and honeymoon. To lose weight before your wedding, stay away from crash diets and supplements, and lose weight quickly the healthy way, with diet and exercise.
Step 1
Determine how much weight you can lose before your wedding. To come up with an appropriate number, multiply the number of weeks until your wedding by 1.5. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week, so 1.5 is the average. Make a contract with yourself that includes weekly goals until your wedding.
Step 2
Exercise at a vigorous intensity on most days of the week for at least 60 minutes per day. You should do a combination of resistance training and aerobic exercise to maximize your weight loss. Weight lifting with light weights, aerobics classes and running are ideal for quick weight loss.
Step 3
Eat a healthy diet up until your wedding day. According to the USDA's MyPyramid website (see Resources), this includes milk, fruits, vegetables, meat and beans, grains and oils. Vegetables, fresh if possible, should be the main food choice in your diet, as vegetables contain a lot of nutrients without a lot of calories. Milk and other dairy products should be low-fat. Lean meats, such as white meat chicken, fish and lean beef are ideal. Choose whole grains instead of refined grains such as white bread.
Step 4
Watch portion sizes. Eating portions that are too large can wreak havoc on your weight-loss plan. Use a scale to weigh your foods to ensure you are eating only one serving size. Place your food on a smaller plate than normal to make it seem like you are eating a lot of food. Sit down to eat your food and eat it slowly.
Step 5
Plan your meals and snacks every day up until the wedding. Eating small amounts of foods every three to four hours will help boost your metabolism. A higher metabolism means that you will burn more calories. You should also plan to eat about an hour before and 20 to 30 minutes after exercising.
Step 6
Avoid drinking empty calories. Soft drinks and sugary beverages contain a considerable amount of empty calories, while water, sugar-free and low-calorie beverages will help you to lose weight quickly before your wedding.
Step 7
Resist the urge to try crash diets and diet supplements that aren't FDA-approved. These are considered unsafe. The only FDA-approved over-the-counter weight-loss supplement is Alli.
