The Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet is a detox plan that is meant to be performed as a fast. You only drink the liquids prescribed in the book, "The Master Cleanser" by Stanley Burroughs, which is based primarily on a lemonade recipe involving organic ingredients. This cleanse has been used successfully by celebrities and non-celebs alike, but you should get clearance from your doctor before trying it for yourself. Prepare yourself for a minimum of 10 days of detoxing before beginning the fast. Mental preparations are all you need to do before starting the cleanse.

Step 1

Juice half of an organic lemon to get 2 tbsp. lemon juice. Avoid store-bought lemon juice as it often contains sugar and preservatives, warns MasterCleanseSecrets.com.

Step 2

Mix the lemon juice with 2. tbsp. organic grade B maple syrup. Do not use grade A maple syrup or other pancake syrups. Use grade B maple syrup because it has important nutrients in it, says Burroughs in "The Master Cleanser."

Step 3

Add 1/10 tsp. of cayenne pepper. Add more to taste. The cayenne pepper helps break up mucus and ultimately flush out more toxins, so try to use at least the minimum amount, recommends Burroughs.

Step 4

Mix with 10 oz of filtered water. This is your complete lemonade drink. Make one to two servings at a time and drink throughout the day any time you feel hungry. Do not make more than a day's worth at a time. Use fresh lemonade only.

Step 5

Drink only the lemonade, peppermint tea (for variety), laxative tea and filtered water for between 10 and 40 days, recommends Burroughs. No food is allowed and no other liquids.

Step 6

Drink a laxative tea once or twice a day to aid detoxification or do a sea salt flush. Mix 1 tsp. of non-iodized sea salt with between 25 and 35 oz of water to make a sea salt flush.

Tips and Warnings

  • Lime juice may be used in lieu of lemon juice, but it must be organic and fresh. Use the same amount of lime juice as lemon. Laxative teas such as Smooth Move can be found at most grocery stores. Read the instructions and drink it at an appropriate time. When coming off of the Master Cleanse, be sure to ease yourself back into normal eating. It is recommended to drink only orange juice for a day or two before trying solid foods to ease your digestive system back into normal eating. Try fresh fruits, salads, and vegetable soups for a few days. Avoid meats, caffeine, dairy and processed foods for at least five days.
